Watched the videos while having my tea this morning and was so happy! Everyone is so inspiring and no work today so I can PLAY!
I did two cards today, the first I stamped and embossed in Filigree Gold PTI's largest feather in the Feathered Finery stamp set. I wanted to try using the distress reinkers so I put a few drops of color into a palette and washed them over the paper which is a watercolor paper block by Lanaquarelle. The paper is smoother than the Tim Holtz paper and I hadn't used it before. I found that the distress reinkers did not blend as well as I wanted and I got a soft muted background. I used a sentiment from the same stamp set , matted in gold and attached to a muted green paper from my stash (probably Bazzill).
For my second card I really wanted VIBRANT and I dug out my Twinkling H20's which have been ignored lately and selected Mediterranean Blue, Douglas Fir, Mystic Blue and Lime Squeeze. I used the same stamp set from PTI and decided to emboss in clear on the same watercolor paper block. When using the H20's I use a dropper to put a few drops of water in each pot and let it sit for a minute. With the paper wet I applied the paint. Wow, I was much happier with the result. The colors blended beautifully and they had that wonderful sheen. I stamped with an AmyR sentiment from her Elegant Greeting set. A note about watercolor blocks. They resolve a lot of problems with paper warping but it is (for me anyway) hard to get the paper off the block. You have to insert a craft knife or spatula tool to separate the paper from the block. Then it is easy to pull off and easy to get the little bits of glue off. I matted on PTI topical teal cardstock and then onto PTI heavyweight white cardstock. The little drippage on the upper right corner makes me a little crazy so I am trying to ignore it.
I just love the shimmer and the clarity of these colors! |
