30 DAY COLORING CHALLENGE DAY 4: A LITTLE BIT OF COLORED PENCILS

I was hoping to post every day (hmmm) but tomorrow is a travel day up to Mammoth (about 5 hrs door to door) and it is at altitude (our house is at 7900') so probably won't be able to color or post tomorrow.  I worked on these two Mo Manning images (mostly Polychromos) and the little girl with the Corgi is done unless I put in a background (always makes me nervous) but the cute little Frenchie is just started.  I did the wings in metallic pencils and then blended with a blender pencil.  Will probably add a bit of Wink of Stella to the wings and might try to finish him tomorrow night when I get my supplies unpacked and if I don't collapse!  Can't wait to see the snow again since Mammoth has more since we were up in February.

 

TRI-FOLD ELF CHRISTMAS CARD

I love these MFT Santa's elves and finally got a chance to color them and to do them in a mix of pastel colors. I don't know why I opted for a tri-fold as I could have gotten three cards instead but I just liked the idea.  The sentiments are Mama Elephant Merry Christmas Wishes and Simon Says Stamps Hand Lettered Winter Wishes.  Dies used: MFT Stitched Snow Drifts and Simon Snowflakes.  The shimmer paper is PTI, the sequins are Lucy's, embossing powder is Hero Arts Satin Pearl (love, love, love) and the whole card was spritzed with shimmer mist.

EXPERIMENTING WITH BLENDING SOLUTIONS FOR COLORED PENCILS

As much as I love using my copics and feel very comfortable with them, I am a relative newbie to colored pencils.  I have had my Prismacolors for a long time but other than sharpening them I had not really done much with them.  I think I was intimidated by seeing what professional artists can do with them which seems almost magical.  But I have been trying.  The adult coloring book craze has been a major aid in motivating me to use my pencils.  Having read so many different articles on blending options I decided I needed to try them for myself.  Let me say first off that I had only ever tried a blending (or burnishing) pencil and may not have been using properly but I didn't get great results.  I then watched a YouTube video about using vaseline but when I tried it I found that, for me, it was hard to control and I got big clumps of vaseline on my pencil or blending stump.  Gamsol I was familiar with but after spilling the container and getting the smell everywhere I decided it wasn't for me and I again, wasn't loving the results.  Next up, Baby Oil.  Who would have thought that this would give both lovely results in a controllable manner and NO SMELL!

I also liked that I could go over the area that I had already blended with the baby oil and add more color which I did in both the rose and the flower.
