So here is a much delayed post. My 90 year husband returned from filming a commercial in Florida in August with a septic shoulder and is just now beginning to recover. Multiple hospital visits and a pacemaker later and I feel like we are sort of getting our life back. In any case, this card took me a week and a half in 10 minute intervals. I have been trying to use my stash of backgrounds that I have lying around so I picked one that is a mix of gold and speckled egg. I used two Altenew stamps and a sentiment stamp from Unity Stamp Company.

When I first started buying dies I stored them in the plastic envelopes using Jennifer McGuires method. They were opted by theme and I could flip through them daily easily. As I acquired more and more, they were taking up so much space that I thought having more of them grouped together would work. I have a large file-sized drawer in my work area and I discovered Crafter's Companion tabbed magnetic sheets that really were strong and held a lot of dies. I have bee using this for a couple of years but there were a number of drawbacks. One was weight. The sheets are heavy to begin its, add the dies and they are heavier. Two, if there were small bits, they would sometimes fall off into the drawer. And thirdly, they were jut too unwieldy to flip through. My latest and hopefully, final solution is to put the dies into 5 × 7 photo storage boxes from @scrapbook.com. I have a combo of the old magnetic sheets that I used in the very beginning and my newer, stronger ones using Marietta Magnetics 5 x 7 self adhesive magnetic sheets on medium weight chipboard. The boxes fit quite a lot of dies and they are all stored by theme. I can just grab the specific box and rummage easily through it.Ellen Bornsteinhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/13341391437080021596noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-7107605260612058396.post-52129466423449497182021-07-10T16:15:00.001-07:002021-07-10T16:15:15.757-07:001 BACKGROUND STAMP 4 CARDS

I stamped it twice, one in white and embossed in white, and one with Versamark and embossed in gold. I then cut up
the stamped image so I could get two cards out of each image.
I used distress inks to make a blended background and the embossed ink make a resist for the inks. On two of the cards I dripped a bit of water and perfect pearls and on the other two I splattered some KREMER GOLD PAINT. I used the same die cut for all the cards (unfortunately I am writing this away from home and I can't remember who makes this but will add that info when I return in 2 weeks.) I used a gold glitter card stock from Simon and a black shiny cardstock from ERIN LEE CREATIVE. I cut 3 layers of cardstock and glued them together for dimension. I finished off with some sequins and some gold baubles from Trinity Stamps. Hope this helps you to stretch your background stamps!

This card was one of the take forever kind. I had the idea of butterflies on a slimline card so using the GINA K BEAUTIFUL BUTTERFLIES I stamped and colored 4 of the images that I thought would work on the card and die cut using the co-ordinating dies. I first ink blended on Neenah solar white with distress inks and then used a 3d EMBOSSING FOLDER FROM MEMORY BOX that I had to emboss twice to be able to cover the whole card. And yes, one was upside down but since it was an overall pattern once the butterflies were on, you couldn't tell. Once it was embossed I went over it with a slightly darker ink to bring out the highlights. However, when I placed the butterflies on the card they didn't seem grounded so I used WAFFLE FLOWER SLIM LAYER DIES to cut a border die out of TONIC SILKY SKY metallic paper. That contained the butterflies but I felt the colored ones overpowered the card. Using an older MFT beautiful butterfly stamp set and dies, I stamped on heavyweight vellum using a sparkle embossing powder and placed those in between the colored butterflies. I added a few jewels in between the butterflies. I used the CONCORD & 9TH PERFECT PAIRINGS BIRTHDAY DIE for the inside sentiment and one of the leftover colored butterflies. For the envelope I used a 12 x 12 paper from my stash and the TIM HOLTZ PERSPECTIVE BUTTERFLY DIE and die cut the name with the same Tonic silky sky paper. Probably the most elaborate card I have ever made, hope you like it.

Ellen Bornsteinhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/13341391437080021596noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-7107605260612058396.post-59820128421524171042021-04-07T15:56:00.002-07:002021-04-07T15:56:24.056-07:00SIMON SAYS STAMP FLORAL GARDEN BIRTHDAY CARD

I made three tags in December for Christmas cards that I never used. I had used a very old background stamp from Impression Obsession called Boxwood that is one of my long time favorites. On top of that I used the leaf layer from the Layered Leaves & Flowers stencil from Pretty Pink Posh. I applied a coat of Nuvo Glimmer paste in Moonstone. Because that had a goldish tint I used Tonic Gold metallic paper for the sentiment using Tim Holtz Stretch Upper dies. I brought up some TONIC GOLD HEARTED PAPER PACK and cut multiple hearts of 3 different gold papers. I also used Neenah white 80lb as the middle layer of the die. I cut a white panel and die cut 3 hearts from top to bottom from Neenah 110lb and then splattered that with Kuretake Gansai Tambi gold from the Gem color set. Once I glued and stacked all the hearts (while watching TV) I set them aside and cut a smaller panel of pink card stock that exactly matched my pink envelope( I believe I got this from the Paper Source). I layered that under the card front so that the pink would show through as the base layer.

The final step for the card was to add some TRINITY STAMPS GEORGEOUS GOLD BAUBLES . I first did a wash of color onto the black watercolor paper, overlapping the colors a bit to blend. While that was drying I did a wash of light purple, using the KARIN DECO PRO METALLIC markers and put that aside to dry. I die cut the letters out of the black watercolor paper, making sure I lined up the letters so that the ombre effect would be the same on all the letters. I stamped the balloon stamp and embossed in a fine gold embossing powder and then painted it trying to mimic Kristina's use of gold and color together. When that was dry I fussy cut the image. I then die cut the light purple panel using TRINITY STAMPS SLIMLINE DIE. I adhered the balloon stamp directly to the paper and applied foam ounting tape to the letters and using a T-square, I mounted the letters onto the paper. The panel was then attached to a black card base cut (finished size is 8.5 x 4.75).Ellen Bornsteinhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/13341391437080021596noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-7107605260612058396.post-27550337930171604342020-04-26T18:56:00.002-07:002020-04-26T18:56:23.933-07:00ONLINE CARD CLASSES DAY 6<span style="font-family: "arial" , "helvetica" , sans-serif;">Going backwards, this is day 6 but I wanted to actually finish 3 of the cards before posting.

<span style="font-family: "the hand"; font-size: 13.5pt;">How strange to be
posting again. I have gotten so lazy (and it is just so easy to post to
Instagram and not bother with all the writing) that it has been almost 3
whole years since I made a post. Granted a lot else has happened to
interrupt the flow but I am ready to jump in again. About 2 weeks ago I
saw this post on the SIMON SAYS BLOG and was totally inspired to try it
myself. Nina-Marie painted her stamp with distress oxides and they were
so bright and cheerful that I wanted to use them for the card I was making for
a special friend. I used the STAMPENDOUS SPRING GARDEN background stamp as I felt
it was similar in feel and had lots of potential for bright colors. I used
about 12 of the Distress Oxides in bright colors and they were amazingly easy
to paint with, just smush on a craft mat and paint. I stamped the sentiment in Catherine Pooler Bellini ink and clear
embossed on heavy duty vellum. I didn't mind covering some of the image
as the daffodils under the sentiment didn't stamp perfectly (I am not the best
stamper). I trimmed a little from the edges of the card and mounted it on a
piece of Neenah Solar white 110lb stock at 5.5" sq. I added Nuvo
drops in different colors to the centers of some of the flowers and was
done.

So excited for another Online Card Class and for day one I decided to try Jennifer McGuire's technique of embossing over embossing but without using the snow effect cause it didn't seem to work with me card (trust me, I tried and had to lop off the bottom of the card!).

I used Ranger's Queen's Gold embossing powder for the base layer I then stamped MFT's Garden Flourish with versamark and embossed with WOW vintage peacock. It worked just the way Jennifer said and melted slightly into the gold. Unfortunately, it was too subtle and a little to elegant to add the white snow embossing so I cut off the mess I made while trying that and made a square card. I used Avery Elle's Seasons Greetings die and embossed with the same gold. I cut 3 more layers and adhered them together. The die comes with holly leaves and berries but I used red glitter stickles for the holly berries which don't show up well at all in the photo. A little WOS on the leaves and that was it.
Card stock base is MFT Elf Green.Ellen Bornsteinhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/13341391437080021596noreply@blogger.com1tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-7107605260612058396.post-33206038495622622092017-06-30T18:21:00.001-07:002017-07-01T14:09:02.800-07:00PATTERNED PAPER AND FLORALS<span style="font-family: "arial" , "helvetica" , sans-serif;">Well I can't believe that it has been months since I have posted anything. Really, the height of laziness. Instagram continues to be my go to social media especially since I seem to only use my cell phone for photography. I started this card for one of my daughters birthday but since we are up in Mammoth and I am so busy with outside sports and activities, it has taken me forever to finish. I really wanted to enter it into the Simon Says Wednesday challenge, Patterned paper but, gosh darn, I didn't get it photographed in time and since I don't have my light box, finding a good spot to get the lighting just right was difficult (really, really difficult. I took maybe 40 pics and I am still not happy.)

<span style="font-family: "arial" , "helvetica" , sans-serif;">I used some old patterned paper from my Mammoth stash for the background and used the new TheTon geometric lattice coverplate die with another small patterned paper to layer over. With Copic markers I colored the flowers from Simon Says More Spring Flowers. The colors will be posted below, but you can see from those that the photo colors are not accurate. I stamped MFT's Essential Sentiments on black and heat embossed with white. I popped up the large flower with double layer of foam tape. A dollop of pink(I know it doesn't look like it) of Nuvo crystal on the green flower and white pen highlights and the card was finally finished.
I worked on these two Mo Manning images (mostly Polychromos) and the little girl with the Corgi is done unless I put in a background (always makes me nervous) but the cute little Frenchie is just started. I did the wings in metallic pencils and then blended with a blender pencil. Will probably add a bit of Wink of Stella to the wings and might try to finish him tomorrow night when I get my supplies unpacked and if I don't collapse! Can't wait to see the snow again since Mammoth has more since we were up in February.
I stamped it on bristol board to use with the zig clean color brushes and also on Hammermill 100lb digital cover sheet (Amazon) for coloring with Copics.

The first photo is of the image stamped on the bristol and started with the zigs. To get the ombre effect on the letters I applied the paint to the bottom of the letters and then pulled the color up with a water brush. Pretty much the same technique for the flowers and leaves, although the leaves have 2-3 colors. I used wink of stella on the Hello.

When I finished all the coloring I thought the images might look really vibrant against a black background and I really, really didn't want to fussy cut it. So I took a black marker and colored all around the image but the strokes were visible and it wasn't a really dense black so I covered it with the Spectrum Noir Sparkle Black pen, which you can see below. Hmmm
I put most of my coloring mediums onto the cart (no ink pads, no Tim Holtz crayons etc) just stuff that I can sit in the living room at night and color while we watch TV. I can wheel it anywhere in the house or back into my craft room. My Raskog cart from Ikea stays in my craft room and now holds miscellaneous papers, envelopes and foil. If you like and find this useful I'd be so happy to hear from you.
I used Copics to color with a little bit of color pencil. For the background I mixed a few drops of BV29 with about 15 drops of 0 blender solution into a tiny bottle and painted it on with a waterbrush filled with blender solution. I didn't add any texture but left it very soft. I went back over areas that I wanted darker. As usual, I can't remember which stamp company this is from but will add it as soon as I find it (I am so disorganized at the moment).
Wouldn't you know it Day 1 has arrived and I have to go to work. I want to share an image that I started (somehow I have quite a number of these) at Copic Boot Camp but never finished. We were using this image (sorry, can't remember who designed it) in a lesson on watercolor backgrounds using Copic markers. I did a little bit of the background and really wanted to finish it so it was a perfect size project for this first day of the challenge. I used Copics for the flowers and then used colored pencils for additional details and white signo gel pen. Very simple coloring and I am glad it is finally done and ready to be made into a card. Please excuse bad phone photography. Just found the stamp and it is Technique Tuesday's Morning <span style="font-family: "arial" , "helvetica" , sans-serif;">Glory. Whew!
The kit comes with 12 watercolor cards, 12 blank envelopes, 1 foam dot sheet and 1 occasion cardstock sheet (small perforated sentiments). The cards are 5 x 7 so there is lots of space to color or paint. I realized when I felt the card stock that it wasn't really a high quality watercolor paper so I decided to use my new set of Albrecht Durer Watercolor Pencils that I just received from Amazon. I was interested in these because unlike my beloved Inktense pencils they are watercolor pigment and not ink however, whether it was the paper, the pencils or my technique but the blending was not as I hoped. I will try the next card with the Inktense pencils and maybe one with my Copics(which I am the most comfortable with). It is possible that the paper that these cards are printed on might hold up with real watercolors but it seems too lightweight for that.
<span style="font-family: "arial" , "helvetica" , sans-serif;">

<span style="font-family: "arial" , "helvetica" , sans-serif;">After I finished with the coloring I decided that I wanted to cut the card in two and only use the colored front to make a more substantial card. I cut down the size so I could mount it with foam tape on PTI Autumn Rose card stock. I embossed the Sentiment from Mama Elephant with Versamark Ink and embossed with Filagree Gold embossing powder on Bazzill 40lb vellum and adhered Simon Says gold sequins. Oh, and I couldn't resist a little Wink of Stella Clear on the flowers!
Instagram is so easy it has made me lazy about blogging. Here is a card I made with a Birch Press die, DAZZLE. These dies are amazing even though at first they seem really expensive but you get three full dies that can be used as stand alone or combined. I used a combination of silver glitter paper and silver mirror paper to create a special 18th birthday card. The number is out of a PTI shimmer paper that looks flat in the photo but which really does shimmer. The card is very simple but very elegant. I think this would be great for a wedding card also. Since making this card I broke down and ordered more of these dies and can't wait to play with them.#shrs_MAP87857_target { text-align: center; width: auto; margin: 5px; border-style: solid; padding: 4px; Here is one that I made for my great niece and it is sort of a tag/card but being used as a tag. Love the Memory box snowflake tag and this adorable image from MFT which I watercolored. The tag was cut from shimmer card stock, layered over a pinky red paper.
The sweet sentiment is a Lawn Fawn die also cut from the same shimmer and then I cut it to fit the tag.

I die cut it in a circle thinking I would make a frame but I didn't like that so instead I used a circle die to just overlay it. I kept the sentiment simple, a Wplus9 Merry die (colored with Spectrum Noir Shimmer Pen and also used clear on the red ornaments)and the Christmas word from their Festive Greetings. The white shimmer paper is from PTI which kept it simple but pretty. I really wanted the image to be the primary focus. Hope you all like it and I would love to hear from you!
I don't know why I opted for a tri-fold as I could have gotten three cards instead but I just liked the idea. The sentiments are Mama Elephant Merry Christmas Wishes and Simon Says Stamps Hand Lettered Winter Wishes. Dies used: MFT Stitched Snow Drifts and Simon Snowflakes. The shimmer paper is PTI, the sequins are Lucy's, embossing powder is Hero Arts Satin Pearl (love, love, love) and the whole card was spritzed with shimmer mist.
And we got to color those amazing boots! Meeting all those creative women was an added pleasure and I hope to do it again.
However, when I got home my craft room was in a major state of disarray. So while trying to clean up and reorganize my husband unearthed 4 card boxes from his old medical office and I thought hmmm I can use those!. He cleaned and painted them and they turned out to be great storage. Love upcycling!

<span style="font-family: "arial" , "helvetica" , sans-serif; font-size: large;">September is my favorite and most feared time of the year and that is because Simon Says Stamps rolls out so many new and irresistible stamps, dies and other goodies that my wallet has a complete clean out. I have already placed three orders and it is only September 5th. (wring hands and big sigh). And here is the thing, you know there are more goodies coming up. Maybe it is a good thing I will be away from mid September on (wifi on plane!)
<span style="font-family: "arial" , "helvetica" , sans-serif; font-size: large;">Don't want to miss anything. Check out what is out so far, just click on the link. I will share my haul when it arrives.
